FARM MANAGER
Corfield Downs Pastoral | Winton, Queensland
Location: Approx. 100 km northeast of Winton, QLD
Enterprise: Integrated cattle backgrounding/trading & broadacre dryland cropping
Scale: 60,000 hectares | Capacity for 10,000 AE (~12,000 head young cattle) & 4,000 ha cropping under development
About the Enterprise
Corfield Downs Pastoral is a progressive 60,000-hectare agricultural enterprise operating on highly productive Mitchell grass plains. The operation combines a dynamic cattle trading strategy with an expanding broadacre dryland cropping enterprise, currently focused on forage sorghum with active expansion into grain and cotton.
Owned for the past 12 years by two actively engaged off-site directors, the property has received substantial capital investment in infrastructure, staff, and land development. We are now entering an exciting new phase of growth, exploring silage production, supplementary feeding, potential irrigation, and an opportunity feedlot.
The Role
Reporting directly to off-site directors, the Farm Manager will take full ownership of day-to-day management supporting an experienced team while driving commercial growth and expansion strategy. On site accommodation is provided via a five-bedroom house with governess, if needed.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading business planning, budgeting, financial management, and performance reporting.
Providing hands-on leadership to the station team, building a culture grounded in safety, accountability, and enthusiasm.
Seamlessly integrating and optimizing cattle trading operations alongside broadacre cropping initiatives.
Driving ongoing property development, including crop diversification, silage programs, and potential feedlot/irrigation projects.
Implementing technology and management systems to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and financial returns.
Managing key stakeholder relationships with suppliers, advisors, contractors, and local partners.
About You
We are seeking a sensible, self-reliant, and commercially minded leader who thrives close to the action rather than managing from behind a desk. You will bring:
Uncompromising integrity, honesty, and a proactive commitment to a strong safety culture.
An energetic, strategic mindset with the confidence to challenge established practices.
Demonstrated experience in cattle trading, dryland cropping, and pastoral property development.
Strong financial, commercial, and analytical acumen.
Practical, hands-on capability, including solid knowledge around the workshop.
Strong communication skills to collaborate constructively with engaged directors while making decisive day-to-day choices.
The Opportunity
This role offers a rare opportunity to lead a premier pastoral asset with a massive runway for expansion. Backed by significant capital investment and supportive owners, the incoming Farm Manager will have genuine scope to shape the future of the enterprise and make a lasting impact.
